This Friday, January 7th, is the inaugural First Friday of 2011. One of our favorite photographers, John Wagner, will have a show of his work at the After Hours Gallery entitled SALT. All the photos were taken at the Bonneville Salt Flats during Speed Week in 2010. Congrats on the show, John!

Tomorrow, October 1st, the monthly First Friday Artwalk will be held in downtown Phoenix. The 26 Blocks project, that we were privledged to print, has found a new home in the CityScape lobby as part of the show's 2010 tour. The opening night festivities will be held from 6-10 pm in the Main Tower Lobby. If you could not make the other showings of the 26 Blocks project this is a great opportunity to experience first hand the collaborative efforts of 26 local Phoenix photographers and writers, highlighting 26 city blocks of downtown Phoenix, and their resulting images and stories.

It seems like so long ago when Joey Robert Parks met with us to explain his idea for the 26 Blocks project. Time sure went by fast. Joey has worked tirelessly to make his concept a reality. The reward is just a day away. The opening reception for 26 Blocks is tomorrow night at the After Hours Gallery.

We were honored that many of the artists recommended our services to Joey, and that he approached us in to be a part of the project. Working with all of the artists enlisted to participate has been a great experience. Its been fun to get a sneak peek of all of the images and stories that we printed for the show. Although, it can't compare to seeing them assembled in the gallery space along with Rafael Navarro's sculptures.

Opening night is Friday May 7th from 6-9 pm at the After Hours Gallery, 116 W. McDowell Road. We hope to see everyone there!

In June the show will move to Monorchid, 214 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix. The tour is scheduled to end at the Burton Barr Public Library in Phoenix Dec. 26-Jan. 31, 2011.

In just over a week the opening show for the 26 Blocks project will debut. The unveiling of the show will be May 7th at the After Hours Gallery downtown as part of the First Friday art walk. It has been a fun project to be a part of, and exciting to see it all come together. We hope to see you there!

On December 4th the monthly First Friday Artwalk will be held in the Downtown Phoenix Art District. The Phoenix Art Museum has also selected that day to mark the beginning of their 50th anniversary celebrations. Their 50th Anniversary First Friday Party is open to the public and promises to be a multi sensory experience. Not only will the PAM be showcasing 50 new acquisitions from notable artists like Andy Warhol, Phillip C. Curtis, James Turrell, and more, they will also have live bands, DJ's, as well as hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. The new artwork will eventually be distributed around the different galleries in the museum. Through January 3, 2010 they will be on display in the Steele Gallery. Come out and help the Phoenix Art Museum celebrate 50 years of cultural enrichment in The Valley of the Sun.

50th Anniversary First Friday Party

Everyone in the Valley is invited to celebrate Phoenix Art Museum's Golden Anniversary at a free First Friday event, December 4, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Since 1959, the Museum has served as the cornerstone of Phoenix's art and cultural community, providing the people of Arizona with great art from around the world and amazing cultural experiences. The 50th Anniversary party promises to be no exception offering a jam-packed evening full of engaging musical performances, live DJ sets, signature cocktails and access to all of the Museum's galleries.

Well the temperature has broken 100 degrees for three straight days and that can only mean that summer has arrived in the Valley of the Sun. So, between the economy and the weather, it's not easy for creative folks like us to get inspired.

Since we're spending gobs of time trying social media as a way to drum up some business we here at Artisan Colour / Display Graphics have found a cool site where creative minds can present ideas. You know that many times it just takes a thought or an idea from someone to ignite the passion within. The site we found is appropriately named Ignite-Phoenix.com.

Ignite Phoenix is an information exchange aimed at fostering and inspiring Phoenix's creative community. On Tuesday, June 16th. Ignite Phoenix will be having it's fourth event at the Tempe Center for the Arts. While that event is more than a month away these folks are opening up submissions for the event right now. so get fired up and ignite the creative passions from within.

We are excited to announce that Ignite Phoenix will be returning to the gorgeous Tempe Center for the Arts for our fourth event on Tuesday, June 16th. The overwhelming turnout for Ignite #3 in February forced us to alter our plans, as we needed a venue that could hold 400+ people. Thanks to support from the City of Tempe and some generous sponsors, we will be in the TCA’s gorgeous 600 seat theater!

Ignite Phoenix has come a long way since the the first “I Wonder If Anyone Will Show Up” event last August, and from now on our goal is have the next Ignite scheduled and posted as soon as a previous event wraps up. We will also open up submissions immediately, so you can submit an idea any time it strikes you. The only time submissions will be closed will be during the judging period right before an event.
